Hey, Reader!!
How are you? β‘
This is such a weird time of year.
β
It's one of the busiest times of year for online marketing.
If you pay attention, you'll notice so many people are launching right now.
And it totally makes sense.
If you have kids, and they were home with you all summer, it probably feels like you're juuuust now able to breathe.
Honestly, even if you don't have kids, you're probably still catching your breath from travel, summer PD, or just grinding in front of the computer before the school-year starts back up.
I know I was always trying to squeeze in more trips before we went back in August!!
β
When I was a teacher, this time of year had the same energy as the "new year" for me. Maybe you can relate!!
I'd buy cute work outfits, gussy up my classroom, and swear up and down that THIS would be the year I'd never forget to take attendance.
*spoiler alert, I always forgot and made it a student job for a kid to remind me*
β
When things feel "new," it can be reeaaaaallyyy tempting to commit to some wild new routine - like posting at least one Instagram Reel a day, or posting one YouTube video a week... when you've never even made ONE video before!! π
If that's where you are, don't worry; we've all been there.
β
Before you go and commit to something completely un-sustainable, though, I wanted to share some thoughts I've had and decisions I've made around content.
Some of them might surprise you!
*or maybe you all know me so well by now you will NOT be surprised lol*
β
Let's get into it:
- I'm no longer taking on clients for social media management unless they also have a long-form channel.β
β
That means I'm only managing Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok for clients who also have a YouTube channel, video podcast, weekly live show, or a very active blog.
β
Annnnd there's a reason for this.
β
If you're building an entire brand, it just makes sense to start with long-form content first. Then, repurpose that into social media content.
β
I've always said that social media doesn't exist in isolation; it works together with everything else you've got going on.
β
If you're building more of a personal brand where TikTok or Instagram is your main platform, then you've gotta go hard and REALLYYYY build a personal brand there.
β
And I love that, of course!!
β
But if that's the case, then it makes more sense for me to coach you instead of doing it for you - since you'll need to record and do a lot of that work yourself anyways.
β
β
β
- You're not imagining it: it IS harder to get attention and traction now.β
β
With my travel brands, stores, websites and etc, my main goal is actually NOT to grow on the social media platforms themselves.
β
The goal for those platforms is always to get them to:
β
* My email list
* A conversion event (sales call, webinar, etc)
* A tripwire/sale
* Long-form channel
β
I could not care less about how many followers I have.
β
It literally means nothing now
β
βThis presentation by Jack Conte (CEO of Patreon) talks about what I call the "Tiktokification" of the internet, and it really breaks down why I no longer care about followers on social media, or even subscribers on YouTube.β
β
I used to care a liiittle bit.
β
But I'm still getting gigs and clients and product sales with out - sooo, it seems it's not really needed!
β
Now, exception.β
β
If you're trying to secure brand deals and make money with affiliate links directly from socials, or even just focusing on digital products via TpT or Etsy, reach (how many people see your posts) really helps.
β
But I have accounts on social media and YouTube that are getting seen by tens to hundreds of thousands of people every month, with "only a few thousand subscribers."
β
It is a lot harder, now, though - to get attention.
β
Short-form video has professional-lized.
β
It's a good time to sit there and reeeeally think about where and how you want to be discovered.
β
What's worth your time?
β
What's not?
β
What are your goals on social media?
β
Really think about these things before you post.
β
β
β
- Now, this is a big change: I'm no longer using A.I. for most of my content.β
β
I've gone back and forth on this so many times, and I can see great points on both sides.
β
But more importantly?
β
I've tested it.
β
...and guess what's given me more engagement, leads, and sales?
β
...MY OWN BRAIN lol
β
I'm definitely still using A.I. to repurpose content.
β
But since I've leaned back into creating from scratch, for humans - I'm so much happier with what I'm doing.
β
If you are going to use social media, you need to be intentional and strategic.
And that goes with any kind of marketing, really.
This is why I wanna invite you to join the Biz Besties Bundle, all about content marketing - starting tomorrow.
When you get on the waitlist (do this today!!), you'll receive a platform decision flowchart that will help you identify which platforms are best for YOU.
This is gonna save you so much time!!
Plus, when the bundle goes live on September 3rd (tomorrow), you'll get access to gifts on how to make Reels, how to run a blog that works in 2025, and so much more, totally for free.
βOh, and did I mention, you'll get my Evergreen Content Engine?!β
This program is now $197.
β
Now, the free version in the bundle doesn't include the live coaching that my founding members got over this past summer, of course.
But it'll definitely get you started on content repurposing.
Hop on the waitlist TODAY to get the flowchart and get reminders to get the goods when they're available on September 3rd.
